Information Technology is changing the way our children are taught and how they develop their own lives outside of school.
Children are asked to complete homework which involves researching the web and reporting on their findings. We can expect their parents to take a role in guiding their children, however, within a safeguarding expectation it is an important part of a child’s education to empower them with the knowledge they need to stay safe and be responsible online.
No matter how many filters are placed on computer devices or parental/safety controls, there may be times children do stumble across inappropriate content. We need to educate children how to handle this content should they come into contact with it.
I appreciate it can be a challenge to keep developing new teaching material and resources to teach children of all ages about internet safety. I can cover individual class lesson plans from KS1-5 or alternatively a school assembly. I keep up to date with recent media about social media trends, games and apps that are affecting children, therefore, ensuring where possible I can cover this within a structured lesson plan with the children.
My lesson plan can include;
- What do we use the internet for?
- How do you web search?
- Behaving safely and responsibly online
- Social Media
- Privacy settings
- Keeping social media etiquette
- What is suitable to post
- Think before you comment and post
- What pictures should be shared
- Students future Digital Footprint
- What to do if you see something you don’t like
- Who do I tell?
- Nude Selfies
My presentations can be adapted to the needs of your school. If you have had a particular concern in school of a new trend on social media or the way in which the children are presenting themselves online, let me know at the time of booking and I will ensure more emphasis is paid to this area.
I am based in North Yorkshire. Please see my About page to learn all about me.
